The North East Development Commission (NEDC) and Yobe State Gov. Mai Mala Buni have given the go-ahead to build a 54 km road project between Ngalda and Mutai.
NEDC managing director Mohammed Alkali said the work will cost N12.99 billion, the Daily Nigerian reported on Dec. 13.
NEDC is executing the project for the Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project for North Eastern Nigeria (MCRP). Sabtech Towers Nigeria Limited is expected to complete the work in a year.
Buni says in a statement that the new road would open up the rich agriculturally endowed communities, and facilitate easy movement of people, goods and services.
The governor noted that he flagged off the phase 1 of the project, the Gujba-Ngalda Road covering Gujba-Mutai, on Dec. 16, 2020. The project was paused due to insurgency attacks but work has resumed on the Gujba-Mutai road because of the decreased levels of terrorist activity.
Performing the flag-off of the phase 2 of the project on Dec. 8., he told Independent: “The construction of this road would open up the rich agriculturally endowed communities, and facilitate easy movement of people, goods and services to stimulate more agricultural, commercial and economic activities in the benefitting communities.
“This project is therefore a commendable drive by the North-East Development Commission which conforms to our development pursuit in the State. Such complementary interventions would certainly go a long way in impacting positively on the lives of our people.”
