The Adamawa State Executive Council (SEC) has approved the construction of a third flyover and a new super highway in Yola, the state capital, to ease traffic congestion and boost economic development.
The Nigeria Daily Post has reported that the SEC meeting, which was held on Sept. 15 and chaired by Govl Ahmadu Fintiri, gave the green light for the construction of a flyover around Mubi Roundabout at a cost of N9.2 billion. This would be the third flyover in Yola, following the completion of two others in 2021 and 2022 during Fintiri’s first term.
The council also approved the construction of a 20.8km super highway that would start from Welcome-to-Yola and end at Army Barracks Junction. The project, which is expected to cost N21.8 billion, has a completion period of 30 months.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mrs Neido Geoffrey Kofulto, said the projects were aimed at reducing traffic congestion and increasing socioeconomic activities in the state.
She said: “When completed, the projects will reduce traffic congestion and increase socioeconomic activities in the state.”
Kofulto also disclosed that the council approved the construction of a warehouse in Government House Yola to prevent looting of stored items by hoodlums. She said the storage facility, which would have a capacity of 7800 metric tonnes for rice and other grains, was awarded to Medugu Commercial and Construction Company at a cost of N291 million.
