According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria, the Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, laid the foundation stone for the Command Day Secondary School in Kontagora Military Cantonment, Niger State, on Tuesday. John Sokoya, the Commander of the Nigerian Army Training Centre, represented Oluyede at the groundbreaking ceremony.
This school fits into the vital space of helping transition pupils from primary to secondary education, an advantage to the children of military personnel and the entire community. “This project will foster community engagement and peaceful coexistence between the military and locals,” remarked Oluyede.
He went on to say that since the military installation was created, troops’ morale had been affected by the fact that there was no secondary school in the cantonment, and hopefully, with the construction of a secondary school, such a gap will be filled. According to the Commander Corps of Artillery, Zakari Abubakar, over 1,000 pupils were admitted annually to the Army Children School, established in 1973, and Vulcan Nursery and Primary School, opened in 1995, and the absence of a secondary school has been a long-standing challenge.
Abubakar thanked Oluyede for approving the project, thereby providing quality education and enhancing the welfare of military families and the host community.
