The President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said that his plans include building the biggest port in Nigeria within the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State during the courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun at Abeokuta on Monday according to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Dangote attributed this to the condition of the Ogun state as the best state in manufacturing terms across Nigeria, a veritable business environment. He explained that since the project had been abandoned as a result of terrible conditions, it was revived by the better conditions offered under Abiodun’s administration. “Our Itori factory has been demolished twice leading us to stop all efforts, but the progress now is remarkable,” he said.
He further disclosed that along with the port, the company has been advancing its cement operations in Ogun as well. The Itori facility has seen two new cement lines with a combined capacity of six million metric tonnes per annum. In addition to these major developments in Ibeshe, where a 12 million metric tonne plant is operating, Dangote was thus able to raise his total output in the state to 18 million metric tonnes every year.
According to Dangote, all the past challenges faced by the company, including the demolition of facilities in the state, have delayed investments in the state. But now, the focus is back to the state due to its stability. According to Governor Abiodun, this project will go down in history as one of the significant landmarks in the history of Ogun and the economic development of Nigeria.
