The Delta State Government has signed a ₦78 billion contract agreement with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for the construction of three flyover bridges, a cloverleaf interchange, pedestrian bridges, and the expansion of roads in Warri and its environs.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who signed the contract on behalf of the state government, expressed his confidence in Julius Berger’s ability to deliver on schedule, citing their exceptional track record in road construction in Nigeria. He said that the decision to choose Julius Berger was based not only on their reputation but also on their expertise in constructing roads in riverine terrains, as evident from their successful projects in other states with similar topography to Warri.
However, the governor also assured the people of Delta State that they can anticipate more impactful projects across various senatorial districts, as he remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for all residents. He noted that the partnership marks a significant step forward in his administration’s plan to initiate an infrastructural revolution, which is a key component of his MORE agenda.
Guardian Nigeria reported that In addition, the governor revealed some of the benefits and features of the project, which include creating over 10,000 jobs, reducing traffic congestion by 50%, and completing the project within 18 months. He also said that the project will improve the aesthetics and security of Warri and its environs.
Meanwhile, some representatives of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the governor and the state government for entrusting them with such a monumental project. They promised to uphold their high standards of quality and professionalism, and to work closely with the state government and the local communities to ensure a smooth and successful execution of the project.
Furthermore, some residents of Warri reacted positively to the news of the project, saying that they are hopeful that it will bring development and prosperity to their area. They commended the governor for his visionary leadership and his efforts to transform Delta State into a modern and progressive state. However, some residents also expressed their concerns about the possible environmental and social impacts of the project, such as noise pollution, displacement of people, and disruption of normal activities.
